Some Tips for Standing Up

Calton Hill September 10th in response to performance from Chloe Cooper and Response from Charlotte Knox-Williams

“This morning I got egg in my hair.”
Is the wall cold? Push against it
It’s cold.
it is pushing against your chest, back,
against your hands, your head, turn
your face away from the wall like you’ve
fallen out.
Look for another surface
to return your reflection.

I want you to experience the experience
of an experience. A face / a face (lips
pressed together). Lower your mouth:
as close to the floor as you can take it
“like a bungalow”.

Nose up against a window - your nose
up against a mirror. I’ll be your mirror
my eyes will follow you around the room
and I will narrate your movements
beneath my breath & you will notice me
making you in the echo. Though -
if you think about it - in a way - now I’m reflecting you
- I am hardly - at all - but for - you - me - I am
turning my head to pursue you and keep
slurping up your image and trying in
words to become totally a reflection of
you even as my words creak and fail
to make any kind of account of my experience
         of your experience,
It’s weird.

So sometimes, the body is too much flesh
to talk about. too messy sometimes
think about it like a Chinese takeaway,
split into three and one. Mostly one.
So apparently, we are making
and remaking the world (I think - oh my
when we look out. First on one side of the hill
and then on the other. This is too much.

Tonight
I go home
and eat pizza
play cards
send messages
about my headache.
